About the Archive

Our Mission

Bishopswood Village Hall Historical Archive exists to collect, preserve and make accessible the photographs, documents, maps and recollections that document the history of Bishops Wood Village and its surrounding communities. Every item in the catalogue is assigned a permanent catalogue reference so that it can be reliably cited, cross-referenced and revisited.

Part of the Forest of Dean Digital Heritage Initiative

This archive is proud to form part of the Part of the Forest of Dean Digital Heritage Initiative, a wider community effort to digitise and share local history. By working together, local archives like this one can reach a far broader audience than any single collection could alone, while remaining rooted in and governed by the communities they represent.

How the Archive is Organised

Items are catalogued by media type (image, PDF, video, map or newspaper clipping), by decade, and by category — including events, people, buildings, war memorials, local industry and community life. Curated Collections bring related items together around a theme, while the full Catalogue can be searched and filtered directly.

Contributing to the Archive

We welcome contributions from the community. If you hold photographs, documents or memories relating to Bishops Wood Village that you would be willing to share, please visit our Contact page to get in touch with the archive team.
